"Classified military documents published on the WikiLeaks site increase the civilian death toll of the Iraq war by 15,000, anti-war activists said today." (CNN World)
So...not very "classified" if it is leaking out. For all of us who are reading the book Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms, by Will Richardson this quote really hits what he states in the first chapter. The POWER of read/write web!!!! Unfortuantely although journalism has changed along with my other Web technologies and publishable pieces of work, the negative side to all of this is that leaks are more likely to occur. Richardson makes mention to the fact that so many people have "on the fly" or "on demand" ways of capturing the news. Although some news can be filtered, others can't. A picture from a phone can speak a thousand words!
Anyways this news article is very disturbing. So many deaths, it is very sad. I just wanted to make a note about how information is so quickly spread now a days....it is quite a revolation for me, since I've never really thought about how quick we are able to get info. Of course we still need to be cautious, because not everything on the web is true.
