Shaping Tech for the Classroom

We all know how it goes....people say it all of the time..."If it worked for me, why can't it work for my child?" "The education system stinks because they need to take it back to the basics like when I was a kid, I turned out fine." What parents don't understand is that things aren't the same as when they were kids. The 21st Century needs of students are way different! The article Shaping Tech for the Classroom explains new and old ways technology is used. Technology has really been around for that long, but there are still "old" ways to use it. Of course one may say that using technology is better than not using it at all. Our children need more!!! They are surpassing the knowledge that many adults have. They don't need it the old way.
My favorite part of this article was when it discussed the BIGGEST barrier...the fact that not every child has a consistant ability to have access to a computer. One-on-one computing is so important, especially now. We need to see more closing of this gap before things can get better! The article continues speaking about different barriers and new ways to use technology. This is very helpful to me since my masters is in educational technology and my district is rewriting their technology goals. I can use this to help my team keep in mind the "new" way to use "new" technology so we can get out of doing it the old way.
